When hard things happen in our lives and make us sad or make us angry, if we focus on these things, we will only notice and see that. Practicing gratitude will help us feel better, even when we’re not feeling good.
This exercise will help us see all the beautiful things we have in our life. Life is full of gifts, we often just don’t take the time to notice them. You can do this exercise, sitting comfortably or lying in your bed.
Close your eyes and think about three things that make you happy, for which you are grateful. Take your time to find those three things. Nothing is too small to be appreciated. It can be a ray of sunshine that you felt on your face, a game you played, the smile of someone you love, etc. Imagine now that all these things are surrounding you. Everything is here, all around you. Take the time to observe how you feel at this moment, and rest for a bit with what you feel. When you're ready, you can open your eyes.
Before you go to sleep: you can do this exercise every night, think of three things that have brought you joy during your day. Sometimes it's hard to see them because they are small, or because we are not used to do that. There're lots of things in life that can make us happy, the only thing we have to do is to simply notice it.
Family: sitting down to have dinner, children and parents, taking turn, say 3 things that made you happy during your day. Try to do this for at least three weeks. This simple exercise is very powerful. What do you observe after these three weeks?
